Diamond-Studded Elephant: A diamond figurine

The Diasqua group has diversified out of the traditional low margin loose diamond trading to manufacturing jewellery to fit all budgets. Its products range from US$99 stainless steel embedded diamond jewellery, catering to the growing demand among young Indians, to the diamond-studded gold figurines that can fetch up to US$1 million catering to the whims of the super rich around the world.

Mehta explains the rationale: "we have created diamond lifestyle products under the company of Diafuego; figurines made of real gold and diamonds and watches made with diamonds. We are focusing on these products since there are too many players in the loose diamond and the jewellery business and the growth rate of the business has declined; it used to be 20%".
The DiaCouture range of products (figurines) from Diafuego, include soccer balls, animal figurines and statuettes, with prices ranging from US$6,000 to US$1 million, cater to wealthy and discerning clients.

Commenting on the potential of the DiaCoutre range in India, Mehta says, "the [target] market for the figurines in India is the super rich. Worldwide we have about 75 countries as customers for the figurines." While this super rich segment in India is still small, it is believed to be growing at a steady pace of 15% a year.

Opera Singer Maria Callas Diamond Jewelry Collections Raised a Million

Jewellery belonging to opera singer Maria Callas has fetched $1.87m (£1m) at auction in Switzerland, triple the pre-sale estimate. The 11 pieces were sold by an unnamed heir who had held onto the collection since the soprano's death in 1977.

The most expensive lot in the auction, which took place at Sotheby's in Geneva, was an 11.7-carat diamond ring. La Divina fetched $397,500 (£213,500), nearly five times the original estimate set by auctioneers.

"There was big interest from all over - collectors, professionals and fans of opera," said Sotheby's David Bennett.

"These jewels have never been on the market before."

Bidding was heavy for Callas' 18-carat gold evening bag, trimmed with diamonds, which fetched $45,500 (£24,430) - roughly nine times its pre-sale estimate.

"That was an amazing price," said Stefano Papi, the author of a book on the soprano's stage jewels. "The buyer must be someone who really loved this woman."

A large part of the collection were items given to Maria Callas by her first husband, Giovanni Meneghini, half a century ago.

Eco Engagement Rings - Earth-Friendly Canadian Diamonds

Promise her the world, and show her you’ll care for it as well. Gents, forget blood diamonds. To show your beautiful wife just how much she means to you, consider getting an earth-friendly engagement ring.

There is so much controversy involved with mining diamonds, that a lot of couples have opted to skip the icey bobbles entirely. For the bling-thirsty yet globally conscious, there are alternatives!

You won’t have to sacrifice glitz or contribute to the unethical treatment of miners thanks to San Francisco-based Brilliant Earth. The business was launched by Beth Gerstein and Eric Grossberg as a result of their love for each other and the Earth. Eric was stumped because he couldn’t find an ethical source for the dimaonds, so created Brilliant Earth as an alternative to the cruel industry.

“All of our diamonds come from Canadian mines that follow environmentally sustainable practices and are committed to delivering high quality gems. Our well-established suppliers authenticate the source of their diamonds as conflict free and follow established domestic business practices.”

As part of its mission to promote industry-wide change, we work in partnership with advocacy groups to promote awareness about conflict diamonds, labor and mining issues, and environmental concerns in the industry. Brilliant Earth also dedicates 5% of its profits to directly benefit local African communities harmed by the diamond industry.

$100,000 Diamond-encrusted Pepsi can

Looking to add a little luxury to your Pepsi? Now you can. Pepsi will be giving away a $100,000 jewel-studded soft-drink can to a lucky fan of the Super Bowl XLI halftime show. The only thing you do is that you have to win it.

In addition, the winner will also get two Super Bowl tickets every year for life. The sterling-silver can is encrusted with 300 diamonds, 100 sapphires and 100 rubies. The design was inspired by past Super Bowl rings, as well as by the Vince Lombardi Trophy for the winning Super Bowl team. There will not be any Pepsi in the can.

This trend of luxutizing products for press is something we’ve covered before. In fact, I think it’s now overplayed. Even USA Today noted the following diamond encrusted products.

There's not even any Pepsi in the can, but "I think they will be OK with that," Nicholson says.

The winner may be less OK with learning that he or she may owe income tax on the bejeweled prize.

This year's game will be Pepsi's 21st as a Super Bowl advertiser, but it will be the first time the soft-drink giant has sponsored the halftime show. It sees the sweepstakes as one more way to get TV viewers to stay in their seats at the half. It also hopes to draw folks in the next few weeks to its website, where it can promote other NFL tie-ins such as fan voting for the "Diet Pepsi Rookie of the Year."

Colored diamonds: The most expensive gemstone in the world

Strongly colored diamonds, called fancies, can be genuinely scarce. About one carat out of every 10,000 sold is a fancy. These shades include yellow, green, blue, orange, brown ("champagne"), purple, gray, black, milky white, pink and red. Red is by far the rarest.

There are around thirty-five red diamonds currently known and most weigh under half a carat. The largest is the Moussaieff Red at 5.11 carats, cut from a 14-carat rough found by a Brazilian farmer and displayed at the Smithsonian in 2003.

Per carat prices for natural, untreated red diamonds have so far ranged from about $800,000.00 to $1.9 million which makes this substance the world's most concentrated nonradiological form of wealth. Most of the time these stones are unavailable at any price, though there were reports in 2002 of a new discovery in the Lipetsk region of Russia.

SERENDIBITE, not to be confused with serandite, is a cyan colored stone that comes from Sri Lanka. It boasts an unusually complex formula consisting of calcium, magnesium, aluminum, silicon, boron and oxygen. So far there exist three faceted specimens of 0.35 carats, 0.55 carats and 0.56 carats. The first two were discovered by rare stone specialist D. P. Gunasekera and purchased by the late Prof. E. J. Gbelin of Switzerland. Was sold for about $14,300.00 per carat. The name comes from the old Arabic term for Sri Lanka, Serendib, as referenced in The Sixth Voyage of Sinbad and elsewhere.

A handbag that made of diamonds

Somewhere out there, there just might be someone who is willing to put down the estimated $1.63 million on this bag. Surely when Japanese designer GinzaTanaka imagined this bag and proceeded with meticulous craftsmanship to scatter 2,182 diamonds across it’s platinum surface, he believed that someone out there would love it just that much.

And he is probably right. If not, we can think of some beautiful ways to arrange 208 carats in diamonds, such as some of the gorgeous diamond necklaces, watches and earrings that you will discover in our online jewelry auction. And since you can bid anything you wish, we’ll have no problem with you trying to reach a million, but, we are betting that you can find your dream diamonds for quite a bit less. This pricey handbag is the world’s most expensive and fanciest bag.
