Sapphire is the single-crystal form of aluminum oxide. It is a gem variety of corundum in transparent or translucent crystals of a color other than red, also known as ruby. Other color of sapphire are blue, yellow, purple, orange or greenish color which comes from mixed amounts of elements such as iron, titanium and chromium.
Although blue is considered as the normal color for sapphire. Those other than blue in color are considered fancy color sapphires. There are also sapphires that blend in color and they call it “color shift sapphires”. Color shift sapphires are blue in outdoor light and purple in indoor light. Color changes may also be pink in daylight to greenish in fluorescent light.
